Boiled Alive

The silkworm cocoons have to be dissolved in boiling water before the silk threads can be extracted. The silkworms are thus boiled alive inside their cocoons - 6,600 silkworms have to die for every kilogram of silk produced. The PETA folks are not happy about it.
