Prior to First Contact8 viewsWith the H-Alpha setup, the Sun doesn't entirely fit into the field of view of the 70mm scope.

About 20 minutes after First Contact8 viewsA big chunk of the Sun is gone already.

Cat People8 viewsChuck and Elouise save the group from the feline onslaught by generously and selflessly sacrificing their own sustenance.

NGC 7789 - Open Cluster in Cassiopeia8 viewsDiscovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783 and nicknamed "Caroline's Rose" because of its supposed floral appearance. Distance from Earth is about 7,600 light-years.

First Contact8 viewsAt 12:39:58.1, local time, the Moon starts to encroach on the disk of the Sun. Since there is not much to say about partial phase eclipse images, I have captioned them with stanzas from Archibald Macleish's poem "You, Andrew Marvell" - a magical piece which best conveys the awe and wonder of the stunning natural spectacle we know as a total eclipse of the Sun - and, in the case of the post-totality shots, a few verses from other metaphysical works.

Totality 28 viewsIf you look closely, a prominence can be seen at approximately 9 o'clock on the disk of the eclipsed Sun.

Bed and Breakfast8 viewsIn Edmonds we stayed in a little studio apartment which shared the house pictured here. Our quarters were on the left, identified by the "7713" on the door.

Carport8 viewsSarah and Mike manage to get along just fine without a garage.

Sandie clowns for the camera8 viewsHere I must lament that the lens hood for my workhorse 24-70mm Canon zoom lens protrudes annoyingly into the picture when the lens is set at 24mm. The usual solutions are to crop the picture or to clone-stamp the corners, but sometimes neither alternative is feasible.

Balcony8 viewsThe north wing of Sarah and Mike's house. I really like the balcony, which provides a second-floor exit as well as a sun deck, and overhangs the first floor so as to provide cover for a person exiting on the first floor.
