Roadster823 viewsI couldn't identify this vintage auto - the spare tire says "Ford", but it doesn't look Fordish to me. NIcely restored, though.

Rocky Road822 viewsSandie stops to confer with JoAnn about smoothing out the bumps in the road. Turns out that the best way was to fire the chauffeur (me) and take over herself.

Staggering Stonewalls822 viewsThe walls of the canyon reel like some crazy collapsed building.

The Hat Pavilion822 viewsI got one with a neck protector and a chin tie to keep from losing it in high winds. I found out I really needed it the next day.

On to the mine822 viewsIgnoring the hazard warnings, we ambled from the parking lot up the hill toward the mine.

1960s Cadillac821 viewsNot sure what year this Cadillac is, and not interested enough to look it up; fender skirts are an abomination.

IC1396A - Elephant Trunk Nebula 821 viewsA narrowband (Hubble Palette) image of a dense cloud of gas and dust within a much larger region of ionized gas designated IC1396, illuminated and ionized by the massive bright star HD206267 at the upper right corner of the frame. I don't find that the shape of the nebula resembles an elephant's trunk, but rather, as Michelle Evans has suggested, a dragon named Verminthrax Pejorative from the movie Dragonslayer.

Teapot820 viewsWe partook of tea from this elegant piece, which was not among the merchandise offered for sale.

Entrance to the Narrows819 viewsFrom here on there is no stopping, no turning around, and no return.

Hell's Gate819 viewsThis is where the Beatty Cutoff branches off the Daylight Pass Road to head toward Highway 190 and Furnace Creek. It also took us to the turnoff to Keane Wonder Mine. It really was the gate to Hell on this day, given the conditions on the Valley floor.

Colorful Cliffs818 viewsA greenish layer is visible in the foreground hill. Further on, reds are prominent.
