Nomad Camp630 viewsOn the road from Denizli to Antalya, we stopped at what we were told was a nomad's camp. Genuine nomads are pastoral rather than agricultural, and so it is hard to understand why a real nomad would need a tractor; and given that the lady who maintained this establishment was more concerned with selling items such as shawls and amulets than herding sheep and goats, it seemed more to fit the definition of "tourist trap." Nevertheless, it was a welcome stop in a long ride, and nobody complained.

Entertainment Value630 viewsThe Basilica Cistern has been featured in a number of movies, including the James Bond thriller From Russia With Love, in which Bond took advantage of its location under the Soviet Consulate to get access to a cryptographic machine. In reality, the Consulate is nowhere near the Cistern.

Some photographers were content with cameras on tripods (right of center). Others didn't event bother with tripods.

Tile Painting629 viewsI don't know what historical scene or event this picture is intended to depict - maybe a slave market - but it was uncharacteristically risque for this shop.

Map of the Ottoman Empire629 viewsShows how the Empire expanded from its early days, when it occupied just a small area of Anatolia and the Balkans, through the 17th century, when it reached its greatest extent. Note that in Turkish the name is "Osmanli," after Osman, the founder; "Ottoman" is a Western corruption.

A bit shaky on the 5DF628 viewsNo sense of balance - I'd have made a hell of a lousy astronaut.
