IC 1805 - The Heart Nebula in Cassiopeia12 viewsIC 1805, the Heart Nebula, lies 7,500 light-years away from Earth in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way. It is an emission nebula, drawing its radiance from Melotte 15, the cluster of bright stars in the center of this image. NGC 7009 - The Saturn Nebula10 viewsA planetary nebula in the constellation Aquarius, at a distance of about 5000 light-years, with a superficial resemblance to the planet Saturn. This image does not do it justice, because a much larger telescope is required to resolve the complex internal structure of the nebula. IC 5067 - The Pelican Nebula19 viewsAn emission nebula (H-II region) in the constellation Cygnus, associated with the North American Nebula (NGC 7000), but visually separated from it by a dark dust cloud. Supposedly has the shape of a pelican, though not very much in this image. NGC281 - The Pac-Man Nebula4 viewsA bright emission nebula, part of an H II region in the constellation Cassiopeia; known as the Pac-Man Nebula because of its resemblance to the video game character that flits around ruthlessly and insatiably chomping up defenseless, pathetic little dots.
