Nazar Boncugu9 viewsJim Windlinger demonstrates one possible use of the Turkish anti-evil-eye amulet, the Nazar Boncugu. Note on pronunciation: the "c" in "boncugu" is pronounced like an English "j", and the g is silent, so pronounce it as if it were spelled "nazar bonju".

Nomad Camp6 viewsOn the road from Denizli to Antalya, we stopped at what we were told was a nomad's camp. Genuine nomads are pastoral rather than agricultural, and so it is hard to understand why a real nomad would need a tractor; and given that the lady who maintained this establishment was more concerned with selling items such as shawls and amulets than herding sheep and goats, it seemed more to fit the definition of "tourist trap." Nevertheless, it was a welcome stop in a long ride, and nobody complained.
