NGC 6543 - Cat's Eye Nebula714 viewsA structurally very complex planetary nebula about 3000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Draco. In large-telescope images it has the appearance of a cat's eye, but in my 5" refractor it appears simply as a bright blue star with a halo. The small spiral galaxy off to the left is probably NGC 6552.

IC1805 - The Heart Nebula, narrowband version714 viewsNarrowband rendition of the Heart Nebula, using the IDAS NBZ nebula enhancement filter to capture the H-alpha and O-III emissions; Fish Head Nebula seen as extension of Heart at lower left.

Sh2-290 - Planetary Nebula in Cancer710 viewsAlso known as Abell 31 and PK 219+31.1. Ancient planetary nebula, about 2000 light-years away, one of the largest in the sky but very dim.

NGC281 - PacMan Nebula, narrowband version709 viewsA narrowband version of the PacMan, obtained with a one-shot color CMOS camera and an IDAS NBZ nebula enhancement filter, with H-alpha mapped to red and O-III to blue.

IC405 - The Flaming Star Nebula in Auriga707 viewsNarrowband view of an emission and reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga north of the celestial equator, surrounding the bluish, irregular variable star AE Aurigae. About 1500 light-years away.

Tulip Nebula - Sh2-101706 viewsAn emission nebula about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. The shape vaguely resembles the outline of a tulip.

Sharpless 2-82 - The Little Cocoon nebula in Sagitta701 viewsAlso known as the Little Trifid Nebula, LBN 129 and DG 159. Ionized by the B0.5V star HD 231616.

Sharpless2-1700 viewsCombination of a diffuse HII emission nebula and reflection nebula in the constellation of Scorpius with Pi Scorpii at its center.

NGC 7023 - the Iris Nebula in Cepheus699 viewsA bright reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus, about 1300 light-years away. Actually NGC 7023 is the star cluster inside the nebula, which is properly designated LBN 487.

Sharpless2-9 - Emission nebula in Scorpius698 viewsThere is also an area of reflection nebula (blue) around the star Sigma Scorpii, but the processing of this version doesn't reveal it very well. The globular cluster M4 is also in the field of view.

IC2118, the Witch Hunt Nebula697 viewsFaint reflection nebula in Eridanus, usually known as the Witch Head Nebula, but it doesn't look much like a witch's head in this view, shot with an IDAS NBZ nebula enhancement filter, so maybe this version is best titled the "Witch Hunt Nebula." About 900 light-years away; illuminated by the nearby supergiant blue-white star Rigel in Orion.
