Markarian's Chain649 viewsPart of Markarian's Chain, a group of galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. Visible in the photo are NGCs 4477, 4473, 4461, 4458, 4438 and 4435. Not visible are M84 and M86, which are out of the frame to the right - my telescope's field of view is not big enough to capture them all.

M97 - The Owl Nebula630 viewsPlanetary nebula in the constellation Ursa Major, 2030 light-years distance from Earth and about 8000 years old. The blurred appearance results from the fact that it consists of several overlapping shells of gas. The shells are not entirely concentric, but form a barrel-like structure which gives rise to the owl-like appearance.
