IC2177 - The Parrot Nebula452 viewsUsually known as the Seagull Nebula, but to me it looks more like a parrot. An HII region lying along the border between Canis Major and Monoceros.

M108 and M97 in one frame452 viewsBarred spiral galaxy M108, nicknamed the Surfboard Galaxy, about 28 million light years away; and planetary nebula M97, the Owl Nebula, 2030 light-years away, both in Ursa Major.
IC1848-20181014.jpg
IC 1848 - The Soul Nebula451 viewsAn emission nebula in Cassiopeia, eastern neighbor of the Heart Nebula, IC 1805. About 6,500 light-years away, it spans 100 light-years, and is too big at that distance to fit into my telescope's field of view, so only part of it is seen here.

M78 - Reflection Nebula in Orion450 viewsM78 - Reflection Nebula in the Orion B molecular cloud complex, 1,350 light-years from Earth.

M97 - The Owl Nebula450 viewsPlanetary nebula in the constellation Ursa Major, 2030 light-years distance from Earth and about 8000 years old. The blurred appearance results from the fact that it consists of several overlapping shells of gas. The shells are not entirely concentric, but form a barrel-like structure which gives rise to the owl-like appearance.

IC405 - The Flaming Star Nebula in Auriga450 viewsNarrowband view of an emission and reflection nebula in the constellation Auriga north of the celestial equator, surrounding the bluish, irregular variable star AE Aurigae. About 1500 light-years away.

NGC7380 - The Wizard Nebula450 viewsOpen cluster with surrounding nebulosity in Cepheus, about 8500 light-years away.

Sharpless 2-64, emission nebula in Serpens450 viewsAn emission nebula in Serpens about 1000 light years distant. Dim and difficult to image. Sometimes called the Smoking Embers nebula.

Sh2-119 - the Clamshell Nebula450 viewsLarge emission Nebula in Cygnus, located around the bright star 58 Cygni. The frame is only large enough to accommodate a small part of the left side of the clamshell.

Pre-Totality 5449 viewsAnd now at Kermanshah the gate
Dark empty and the withered grass
And through the twilight now the late
Few travelers in the westward pass
NGC6302_20160624_LRGB2.jpg
NGC6302 - The Bug Nebula449 viewsA bipolar planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius. Also known as the Butterfly Nebula, but a larger telescope than the 5" refractor used to capture this image is needed to show the pattern clearly; it shows up well in Hubble images. In this image, the nebula looks more like a bug squashed on a car windshield.
