Democratic Republic of the Congo, February 2023

My sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and Chuck Anderson, who live near Cleveland, Ohio, traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to attend the wedding of their longtime lodger and friend, Josue, in Kinshasa, the capital and largest city of the DRC, on Sunday, February 26, 2023. They flew from Boston via Istanbul to Kinshasa on Turkish Airlines and took their oldest son, Jay, along with them on the trip. Their middle son, Daryl, flew by a different route and met them in Kinshasa. It proved to be an extraordinary experience, with several unexpected adventures both during the trip over and back and at their destination. They were able to chronicle their trip in photos and videos, and I thought that a pictographic account of their experiences would make a great web subject for a web post. I’m presenting it in two parts: the first covers their unexpected stopover in Istanbul on February 24; the second relates their experiences in the Congo from February 25 through 28.
