Your Illustrious (?) Host

Where I’m Coming From (and Going)

I have a passion for travel, for seeing all the places where history was made, great events occurred and awesome natural spectacles are to be experienced. Trouble is, travel is expensive and I don’t get to do it as often as I would like. But with the aid of a telescope I can journey a long way, from the nearby planets of our solar system, on to the more distant nebulae and star clusters of the Milky Way, and still farther to galaxies thousands of light-years from us. Still, I do manage to indulge my wanderlust now and then, and on these pages you will find not only astral but also terrestrial images chronicling some of my travels in pictures as well as words.

I’m a native of Long Beach, California, a satellite of Los Angeles. At an early age I became enamored of history in all its aspects – not merely the short span of recorded history, but the entire sweep of time, from the beginnings of the cosmos on to the formation of the earth, the evolution of life, and where it is all going. I earned a Ph.D. in History from Yale University (1981), made a living as a software engineer, and retired from Los Angeles County in 2015.  A few years ago I acquired a small astronomical observatory near Anza, California, where I hang out on clear nights and shoot astro-images.
